Bingo News for 20th May 2008
What's in a name?
I was browsing through Google for news and came across an article about the people of Lesbos laying claim to the name - not bingo related I know but read on - in it the article talks about a protest in 1998 about the name Mecca Bingo, this is the first I'd heard of it!
Apparently in 1998 Muslims protested against the name Mecca Bingo because they felt insulted that their holy city should be associated with gambling. Although there was never any legal action taken against Mecca Bingo there were some rather violent protests apparently. The article goes on to say, and I totally agree, that Mecca Bingo was established in 1884 so the protestors weren't exactly on the ball with their protest were they???

Cannon and Ball to host Celebrity TV Bingo
I wrote about Celebrity TV Bingo a while ago and how Cannon and Ball where lined up to co host the new TV Bingo set to launch on Sky TV later this summer. What I didn't know at the time was that NetPlay is banking on Cannon and Ball to increase their profits after a huge spending spree to acquire new business saw their annual loss at 1.4 million!
